The location places a guest near all the tourist draws but opens up new vistas of small medieval towns like Lucignano that might otherwise be passed by. Cortona, the Chianti district, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena and San Gimignano are all easy day trips. The hosts at Il Calcione are exceptionally pleasant and provide great value for money spent on lodging and the "house" wines and olive oil they sell to guests. Olivella's mother, Nicoletta, was particularity charming and helpful in ensuring our comfort and providing helpful local knowledge of places to visit and things to do. La Casetta is a delightful, secluded holiday apartment for two providing options to eat in or enjoy nearby restaurants. The apartment is on the back side of the building providing quiet and scenic views of the olive orchard in the valley frequented by grazing horses.
