"The views are to die for"
The description of Casa del Castagno does not do it justice, once through the gates you enter a world of peace and tranquility that looks like it has remained unchanged for hundreds of years
I found out whilst I was there that Casa del Castagno is one of a number of houses that were built for estate workers in the 16th century and it has been meticulously preserved by the family that own the estate (incidentally who have owned it for more than 500 hundred years). The house is beautifully furnished and comfortable and the views are to die for - especially from the bedrooms. We were two families with four adults and five children and everything fitted for us perfectly - bedroom layout, bathrooms, lounge and dining seating etc. The pool was fantastic - a really good size with excellent views - we loved it so much it was difficult to drag ourselves away - but the area was also very beautiful and it was easy to get to many wonderful towns for lunch and a look around.
We also hired the cook for two evenings - what an experience - a really interesting and animated person who created Italian food like you've never eaten before, a great experience.
In summary we had a wonderful time, it exceeded our expectations of what a holiday in Tuscany would be like and we will be definitely going back.
