LA FORNACE
"The villa was truly a welcoming place"
Our stay in Tuscany at La Fornace villa on the Calcione estate was absolutely wonderful. Not only did we have the peaceful and bucolic atmosphere of the villa, but also the convenience of making visits to some of Italy's most renowned cities of culture and commerce. The villa was truly a welcoming place.
The living room could seat all eight of us comfortably surrounding a wonderful "walk-in" fireplace. In the kitchen we cooked meals of local meat, fish and produce which we procured at Lucignano, a walled town only ten minutes drive away. The dining room table fit us all amply. We purchased wine and olive oil produced on the estate for our meals. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated in authentic antiques and have comfortable beds. Most of all, the ambience of the countryside was enchanting. We took walks among the olive groves and grape vineyards and even swam in the local pond.
A highlight was our authentic Tuscan meal prepared by a chef from Calcione. We even went along with her shopping in the local market. While the seclusion of the villa was most welcome, less than an hour's drive away are the marvelous cities of Siena and Florence, centers of art and culture with beautiful architecture and some of the finest paintings in Italy.
We received outstanding service while at Calcione. Olivella, her family and staff were always available to answer questions; help us with translations; provide suggestions on places to visit, shop and dine; and fulfill our needs for wood, wine, etc.
I am glad to be listed as a reference for future potential guests. Thanks so much for a wonderful time.
