CASA DEI LECCI
"A wonderful week"
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Casa dei Lecci. Throwing open the shutters each morning revealed misty valley shadows and the medieval silhouette of Lucignano in the distance.
By afternoon the view across the valley was spectacular and the town glowed with golden light.
We spent some of our time driving through the Tuscan countryside, the Chianti area and the Val di Chiana, but it was always nice to come home to our comfortable apartment amid the olive groves. Our terrace was a wonderful place to read or make journal entries inspired by the views and the beauty of Calcione's setting. On chilly evenings we lit a fire in the fireplace and relaxed.
A couple of tips for other guests: be sure to follow the path down to the small and very picturesque lake right on the Calcione property. We spent quite a while sitting on the dock enjoying the fine weather and watching the fish jump for bugs.
The two bar/cafè's near the entry gate in Lucignano have outdoor patios, which are fun for people-watching people, but our favorite place for morning caffè was One Caffè at via G. Matteotti 79, which had yummy jam-filled cornetti. The city of Arezzo is not as well known as some of the other Tuscan cities but it's worth a trip to see the Piero della Francesca fresco cycle at the church of San Francesco and the beautiful stained glass windows by Guillaume de Marcillat in the Duomo.
Olivella - We would be happy to have our comments posted and we would be happy to be a reference.
Thanks again for a wonderful week.
