CASA DEI LECCI
"Our favorite part of our Italian vacation"
We had a wonderful time staying in Casa dei Lecci late June 2004. It was our favorite part of our Italian vacation. The apartment was larger than we expected. The setting so naturalistic and picture-perfect,
we breakfasted on our balcony/patio daily, with an incredible view. We slept well, it was nice and cool at night. Even with no screens, insects were not a problem. We loved the town of Lucignano. After visiting Siena and Cortona, which we had heard so much about, we were glad to get back to "our own town". Smaller, more intimate, no crowds, not touristy at all. The people in Lucignano were very friendly, especially after we had been there a day or two. We went to market day, got to know the gelato guy very well, just seemed to blend right in. The church there rivaled the Duomo in Florence, (on a much smaller scale!), only as we opened the door, there was no one there, the hush and beauty was awe inspiring. Not many people spoke English, but we were able to communicate without problem, and picked up a bit of Italian along the way. We took the train from Rome, then rented a car in Arezzo. The driving wasn't bad at all. You really must have a car when staying out. We toured vineyards, went horseback riding, relaxed and had a wonderful time. After leaving, we took the train to Florence, then Venice, then Rome. The entire trip was 2 weeks. So glad we spent a portion of it in one spot. You cannot miss the cities, all the incredible art and history (the David in Florence is worth the wait!), but the small towns were the most pleasant part of our trip. Our daughter was ready to stay, and is already planning a semester abroad. We'd be happy to be contacted by any potential guests. Hope to come again someday
