"One of the most welcoming places we have every stayed"
We stayed at Casa dei Lecci from September 16 -23, 2006. Il Calcione is a short drive from Arezzo where we arrived by train from Rome and rented a car. It was without a doubt one of the most welcoming places we have every stayed. We researched lots of properties on line before deciding on Il Calcione
From the moment we entered the apartment we felt at home. All the rooms were beautifully decorated and some had antiques mixed with modern pieces. We had more than enough space for the two of us. We really loved the fact that the ceilings were extra high and had beautiful wooden beams. All the rooms were bright with great views. We loved the outside terrace where we would enjoy our morning coffee or our evening glass of wine. There was a wood burning fireplace in the living room that we had the opportunity to use. The kitchen was modern and fully stocked with the necessary items to cook meals. Our bedroom was very spacious and we had the best sleeps ever because it was so quiet at night. The bedroom had an ensuite bathroom with a good-sized shower. In addition to the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room, we also had a very nice foyer and a laundry room. Having laundry facilities was fabulous and so we were able to either hang our laundry inside in the laundry room or outside on the terrace.
The castle is so central that we were able to make many day trips. Some of the places we visited were: Assisi, Siena, Cortona, Orvieto, San Gimignano and Montepulciano. We also went to San Lucignano quite often because it was only a 10 minute drive from the castle. We bought groceries there and had lovely meals in this quaint town.
This vacation was truly exceptional because we got to experience peace and tranquility. We did not miss not having a phone, TV, radio or newspaper. We were able to truly relax. We would go back in a heartbeat to this little piece of paradise.
