Since that was my first trip to Europe I did not know what to expect but I certainly did not expect to stay in such a wonderful place as Calcione. I was so sad the night before we left, standing on the terrace looking out at the wonderful view. The accomodations could not have been better. I will always consider our house there my "Tuscany Home". I hope we have a chance to come back some day. Thank you for everything and please send our thanks to your parents.

Words really cannot express the absolute joy and sheer bliss we found during our recent stay at Casa dell'Alloro at Il Calcione in October of 2007. This place is the perfect combination of old-world, rustic charm but with all the modern conveniences one needs. I had lived in Italy many years ago (Rome) and I wanted to treat my siblings and a friend to the wonders and magic of Italy, as they had never been. So I wanted to choose a special place. "A feeling of history and beauty"
We found it very difficult to leave Calcione after a two week stay in early July 2006. It is in a peaceful, beautiful setting. We stayed in a two bedroomed apartment, Alloro, which had lots of space for all of us (family of 4). It has a large terrace with spectacular views, where we spent a lot of our time - reading, sunbathing and enjoying delicious local produce - both food and wines. Yes, it is unfortunate we didn't get a chance to meet. We did meet your Mother, who was very gracious to us. We had a wonder time. Enjoyed our stay immensely. The location was perfect. We were able to venture off in every direction. The country side was breathtaking. We met many people in the town of Lucignano, which were very helpful. The season was also perfect because of the weather and mushroom season. Food and wine was great. I look forward to returning.

Our stay in Casa dell'Alloro in April 2005 was wonderful. The weather was not that great, but we can't blame anyone for that...
We found Calcione to be a delightful place. We especially enjoyed the tour of the gardens with your mother and meeting Giocondo. The location was very central, allowing for day trips to Siena, Chianti, Arezzo and Cortona, and to Montepulciano.
We would love to visit again, but don't know when at this point. We would be willing to be a reference or for you to use our comments in any way.

"Il Calcione was not what we expected; it was more"
Three weeks after returning to the States a part of each of us remains in Tuscany at Il Calcione. Our two boys, ages seven and eight, simply said it was the best vacation of their lives; and the best part of the best vacation was Il Calcione itself.
During the mornings and early afternoons we tortured our children with history and art, taking short day trips to Siena, Florence, and Montepulciano. The boys never complained because each day they eagerly anticipated returning to the castle.

"The perfect destination"
We spent a very relaxing week at Calcione. We had our two children ages 7 and 9 with us and were very comfortable in Casa dell'Alloro. The decor was so typically Tuscan and charming. There was a huge window in the kitchen making it such a sunny and cheerful room. We enjoyed many meals on our terrace as well. The children were happy to swim in the pool and two lakes or play tennis when we were not sightseeing.

We just returned to the US after a fantastic vacation in Italy, a week of which we spent at Il Calcione. Every bit of our trip was wonderful but staying at Casa dell'Alloro was the best part. “It was so peaceful”
My wife and I had a marvelous time during our week at Calcione.
Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Lucignano was wonderful, the shops, the restaurants, the architecture but mostly the people. It was so peaceful in our apartment and on the deck. We spent many hours enjoying the views of the countryside and the town of Lucignano.
Our walks were made even more enjoyable by your friendly dogs. We plan to return again next year. Once again, thank you.

Add our name with pleasure as one of those who would be delighted to recommend Calcione as one of the delights of Tuscany and a home from home for visitors to your delightful region. I am delighted you have given me the opportunity to end the laziness that was the only thing that prevented me from writing long ago to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at your lovely castle home.
We were guests in Casa dei Gelsi, which was all and more that we could have wished for. It was really a home from home: our swimming pool, elegantly furnished, deliciously cool, wonderful views, all the equipment we needed. What more can I say: it was heaven.
Your family were kindness itself to us. The castle itself is superbly situated for day trips to all the villages and towns of Tuscany and Umbria. We kicked ourselves afterwards for making our original booking with your for one week only and moving on to stay in Florence. With hindsight we should have stayed a full fortnight with you and made a couple of excursions into Florence from Calcione as it is less than a couple of hours away.
And when it is comes to the hilltop villages for which Tuscany is so famous, we decided we had the best hilltop village right on our doorstep - your own Lucignano just five miles away. It had all we needed in the way of shopping, restaurants and the shady bar where we spent many happy moments watching the old men play cards. We loved Lucignano. I would count it as a privilege to extoll the virtues and delights of Calcione to anyone you might like to refer to us.

"Wij kijken uit naar ons volgende verblijf in Calcione"
Herinneringen aan Calcione Al tweemaal zijn mijn vriendin en ik te gast geweest in Calcione. Beide keren hebben we enorm genoten van ons verblijf bij het prachtige kasteel. De accommodaties zijn bijzonder mooi gelegen, rustig en de oude sfeer is ondanks het aanbrengen van confort bewaard gebleven. De eerste keer verbleven wij in het fraaie appartement Fontegiannelli, van daaruit heb je vanaf het dakterras een mooi uitzicht op het middeleeuwse stadje Lucignano. Afgelopen april huurden we Casa dei Lecci met een zonnig balkon een ruim en smaakvol ingericht appartement. Familie Pianetti della Stufa heeft ons gastvrij ontvangen en was bijzonder behulpzaam en attent op het moment dat onze hond ziek werd.
Wij maakten vanuit Calcione mooie dagtochten naar vele mooie plaatsen in de buurt zoals Siena, Florence en Montalcino waar we via kleine binnenwegen naar toe gereden zijn. Wij kijken uit naar ons volgende verblijf in Calcione.
