| LA FORNACE Dear Olivella, I would like to thank you for the hospitality my family and I experienced during our stay at La Fornace. Indeed, as it was described on your internet site, the total quality of the house, the lake, the tennis court, but in particular the silence and the nature life surrounding us, made our stay unforgettable. | LA FORNACE Greetings from the family from Napa Valley! Lisa and Angus send their warmest hello! I am writing you this note to say that my family had the best time at Calcione... the lake, the amazing lunch, the beautiful place, it was just so special and I know that we will talk about it for years and years. Lisa and I would love to return someday. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Tim and Lisa McDonald California, USA email: MacWine@aol.com |

| CASA DEL CASTAGNO Olivella, I just wanted to thank you for your hospitality during our stay at Calcione. Casa del Castagno could not have been better for our family vacation. We particularly enjoyed the rural Tuscan setting with the views and ancient architecture. The dinners prepared by Amel were nothing short of extraordinary. The location enabled us to explore Montepulciano, Siena, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and Florence with ease. The tour of the castle was an unexpected treat along with the olive oil and wine from the estate. We hope to make another trip sometime in the future and would welcome the opportunity to visit Calcione once again. Robert Delamontagne New Hope, Pennsylvania email: rdel@voicenet.com

| CASA DELL'ALLORO My wife and I had a marvelous time during our week at Calcione. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Lucignano was wonderful, the shops, the restaurants, the architecture but mostly the people. It was so peaceful in our apartment and on the deck. We spent many hours enjoying the views of the countryside and the town of Lucignano. Our walks were made even more enjoyable by your friendly dogs. We plan to return again next year. Once again, thank you. Please use my name and e-mail on your web site guest book for anyone who wants a reference. I would be happy to give a great reference. | LA FORNACE We stayed at La Fornace the first week in April 2002. It was a perfect place for our group which consisted of our daughter, her husband, their three children ages 2 1/2, 5, and 6 1/2, my husband, and me. Nannie and Papa (us) had our own bedroom and bathroom on the ground level. Our daughter and her husband had one bedroom, the two older children another, and the baby the third. They shared two bathrooms. The bedroom wing upstairs is across the living room from the dining room and kitchen, so if we were eating later, the children weren't bothered by happy sounds coming from the dining room. The dining room table could seat 10 comfortably, so was very spacious for the 7 of us. The kitchen is small, but does have a dish washer. The house is about 1/2 mile from the castle, and is in a world of its own in the middle of the vineyards. There was no worry about the children being in danger from any traffic, and they loved playing in the courtyard. Our biggest luxury was having Amel come to cook for us several times. She is wonderful! We loved everything she made for us, and it was so convenient to eat "at home" with the children. If you wish to contact me for more information, my e-mail address is knick@jps.net. | After the events of September 11th here in the United States,
many of our friends and family were questioning our decision to
go forward with our much-anticipated trip to Italy. But my husband
Eric and I both agreed that we did not want to let such senseless
acts of violence rule our lives. We would certainly not be looking
for trouble, but we were not going to alter our plans. We had
been warned about longer waiting periods, lines and searches.
We flew California to Chicago to Milan on September 26th and found the warnings to be true. However, we were comforted that these minor inconveniences made for a safer journey. Our American passports were received no differently than those of the Germans, British or Australians we met in our travels. We experienced no anti-American sentiment whatsoever. Eric and I travel to experience new cultures, food, music and ways of life. We do not expect an "American breakfast" or circumstances like we have at home. If that was what we wanted, we would have spent our vacation in San Francisco or New Orleans. We wanted Italy. And that, in all its glory, was what we got! Olivella, we loved your country with its warm and friendly people, beautiful sights and antiquities, romantic views and fabulous food and wine. Il Calcione is wonderful! The property itself is beautiful. Rolling fields, Olive trees, lush woods. Our visit was in the Fall and the trees were just beginning to turn color. Our apartment (Casa de Lecci) was roomy and had all the necessary amenities. (Although we did add a new, sharp knife to the kitchen utensils...). The pool looked wonderfully inviting, but as the weather was a bit chilly, we passed. Maybe we'll come back when its swimming weather... We made good use of the fireplace - made the living room really cozy. Especially the Sunday that it rained so hard and we never left the house! Eric and I shared many a star-filled night and a glass of vino rosso on the balcony. What a beautiful view across the valley! The location was just right for our daily jaunts into the country - day-trips to Deruta for pottery and Assisi for inspiration. We visited Montepulciano and found wonderful Vino Nobile! (If you see a 1997, let us know!). Others we spoke to made trips to Venice, Rome and Florence. Our initial drive down from Florence took only an hour. Your visitors should not miss the restaurants La Badessa in near-by Monte San Savino, nor L'Amorosa in near-by Sinalunga. Both had spectacular food. L'Amorosa was perfect for a romantic dinner with my husband for his birthday! Sinalunga, a quick 10 minute drive down the road, has a great grocery store with all the necessities. Eric and I were very happy with our stay in Italy and particularly our stay at Il Calcione. We share your web-site with all who ask about our trip. We're already plotting to return with several friends - Maybe San Giuseppe is in our future? Please feel free to share my e-mail address. I would love to share my impression and experiences of both Il Calcione and of Italy. My best to you and your family. | I would love to contribute to the online guest book as I found
it to be very helpful in planning our trip and I would be happy
to answer any inquiries that prospective guests may have, so please
feel free to include my e-mail address. Il Calcione was the perfect two week home base for us. Set in the country and very centrally located. The accommodations are rustic, roomy, and deliciously quiet. We loved seeing the horses grazing in the olive orchards and the families of wild boar foraging in the evenings. Casa dei Lecci has a lovely terrace where you can eat and relax with a breathtaking view of Lucignano and the Valdichiana. We regularly enjoyed a short morning walk and dip in the small lake and a cooling swim in the pool after a long day of sightseeing. The surrounding local hill towns of Lucignano, Sinalunga, Rapolano Terme, and Monte San Savino are all fun to explore. Arezzo, a lovely town, is only 20 to 30 mins. away by car and a good place to catch a train into Florence for the day. Siena is another easy excursion by car and a wonderful place to spend a day or two. Thank you for the opportunity to experience Italy in such a wonderful unfettered and unique way. We can hardly wait to return! Sincerely, Rhondi and family Rhondi Schmidt email: rschmid@muse.sfusd.edu CASA DEI LECCI |

Just to say how much we all enjoyed our all too brief stay in San Pietro and how much we appreciated the help and assistance given by Amel and Sef. The children loved the dogs, the lake and the pool. The adults loved the setting, the food and the wine. We all agreed we had a great time and would be coming back to Tuscany to repeat the experience. Happy for both our email and email address to be posted on your web site. Keith and Gill Roberts England CASA DEL CASTAGNO email: ksroberts@yahoo.co.uk |

Thank you for providing such a beautiful setting for our Tuscany vacation. My husband Tom and I met our son Ian with his wife and eight month old son at Il Calcione for a week of relaxation, sight-seeing and wonderful Italian food. The accommodations were spacious and comfortable, the setting quiet and pastoral, and the view spectacular. We very much enjoyed being fed (and spoiled) by the cook Amel, and were very impressed by the prompt attention of your assistant Sef. The surrounding area yielded several day trips for us, and we enjoyed a visit to Florence as well. We would recommend this vacation for anyone, and I hope we can interest a group of our friends to come there together. " Carole Schaad |

Joëlle Willemart Bruxelles - BELGIUM email: joellewillemart@hotmail.com CASA DELL'ALLORO |

We had a wonderful stay at Calcione and are hoping to return there in a few years with our children and extended family. We very much enjoyed our cozy room and found it fun to shop in Lucignano and make meals at home. We also liked exploring the small towns in the area Assisi, Deruta, Siena, Cortona, and Montepulciano. We found wonderful pottery and wine and art and will enjoy these remembrances of our trip. We have many more places to see - we didn't even come close to getting to all of the places on your list! Thank you so much for your hospitality and help. We enjoyed visiting with you and hearing more about the history of that special place. We would be happy to serve as references for those interested in Calcione. Feel free to pass along our e-mail address. Thanks again for providing us with a unique and truly wonderful vacation. | The family that has owned Il Calcione since the 15th century warmly shares the many wonders of peaceful Tuscan life with its visitors. Situated among rolling Tuscan hills filled with silvery olive trees and grapes, La Fornace is uniquely private and comfortable. With its own lake is only a few steps away, La Fornace is a place that you can easily call "home". Good table wine and fine olive oil are produced and sold on the premises. There are excellent, reasonably priced family restaurants and food markets in nearby villages. Siena and Arezzo can be easily visited. The unforgettable Renaissance splendors of Florence are only a short train ride away. If you are visiting in late spring, Hill towns such as Montepulchiano and San Gimignano are within 30 minutes/1 hour's drive through the sunflower covered countryside. We truly think that Il Calcione is one of Tuscany's "best-kept secrets". It is even better than it appears on the website! Becky Beauregard and Jeff Merrill

I will be more than happy to reply to any enquiries about San Guiseppe or Il Calcione. My family stayed there in 1999 - at the time we were living in New York and my extended family joined us from Australia for 2 weeks. I had spent almost 30 hours on the internet trying to find a suitable property for our "large family". For us, a truly Tuscan experience meant finding a villa in a rural area that would allow access to all the wonderful villages and cities I'd visited 10 years earlier. Also, we were not looking for the " Frances Mayes " experience - preferring instead to find a place owned and inhabited by Italians, which would have that quintessentially Italian ambience. I'd spoken to several people who had rented villas over the internet and most had disappointing tales to tell so it was with some fear and trepidation that I committed to San Guiseppe. However, on arrival there we were struck immediately not only by the beauty of San Guiseppe, but also the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The Villa is spacious and very comfortable - filled with beautiful, elegant furniture. However, it retains its rustic charm and warmth throughout. It is first and foremost a family home and its as though the owners have just stepped out for a moment, leaving you to enjoy what they have created, first-hand. With two small children, we were able to have our own space and the other adults in the villa were able to enjoy peace and quiet! For those wanting to experience "real" Tuscany - where there are more Tuscans than tourists, where you can eat olive oil and wine made from the surrounding groves and vines on the property, then Il Calcione is difficult to beat. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience - having said that, we are already planning a return! Serena & Stephen Porges

| Our extended family had a wonderful vacation at Calcione. The setting is beautiful. I will never forget sitting under the pergola, seeing the lights of Lucignano twinkling on the hillside across the valley. Or watching the sun burn away ribbons of fog from the green and gold hills. Or the sound of the birds, especially the owl, whose gentle who-oo gave the night just a touch of mystery. Despite feeling that we were deep in the country, it was a quick drive to several small towns, shops, and restaurants. We were centrally located, so we could make day trips to Siena, Perugia, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, among others. The buildings at Calcione look as if they are illustrations for a 16th century fairy tale, but inside they are snug and have all the modern conveniences. Our cottage (Casa della Pergola) had a lovely fireplace, tile floors, coved ceilings, plus central heating and a dishwasher! I can't wait to come back, and I look forward to staying in touch with you over the years. Please do encourage anyone interested to contact me for a glowing recommendation! | Please accept my sincere apologies for being terribly late sending
an email recommending Calcione. I hope you and your lovely family know just how totally delightful our time was at Calcione. It was absolutely gorgeous. The house, the pool, the horses, those fabulous olive trees and vineyards surrounding. And the FOOD! It was really like a dream. Peter and I keep trying to figure out how we can move to your area and support ourselves!!!! I have highly recommended your place to everyone I know and certainly will continue to do so. And, of course, we will continue to try to find time out of our crazy schedule to return to Calcione. Peter and I would love to visit with you or any of your family should they make it to New York. its fun here in a different way. We hope to see you here. But we will always remember that summer in Calcione. Fondly,

| I had to write and thank you for the wonderful vacation we had staying on your beautiful estate. Our party was large - 9 adults and 2 children but the house was big enough to allow everyone to find a space of their own. The gardens and the view were wonderful. It was very relaxing lying by the huge pool watching the horses grazing and trying to spot all the different wildlife as the sun set. I know how much hard work you put into making things just right for your guests - it was much appreciated. Paul and Anne Biddle Cornwall, UK email: anne_biddle@lineone.net SAN GIUSEPPE

| Dear Olivella, I cannot tell you how embarrassed I am that it has taken this long to write this letter. I just wanted to thank you for a very wonderful stay at Il Calcione. This was truly a memorable adventure for us, and your hospitality made it even better. The accommodations were perfect for both the adults and the girls. It was very kind of the game warden and his wife to let the children visit their home and see the animals, especially Atilla. They really enjoyed that. Each of our day trips to the Tuscan towns and villages was a treat, and with time we began to think of Lucignano as "our little town". An unexpected surprise for us was the city of Lucca. We had no expectations when we went, and what a treat it was; I hope we can return there one day. Please express our gratitude to your parents. It was very kind of them to have us over for a visit that evening. They were both very engaging. Their home is beautiful, and the tour of the Chapel was a special time for each of us. You and your mother were most helpful with the car with the "porcupine problem". The mechanic in Sinalunga was a great idea, and his handy work allowed us to get back to Florence without a problem. Grazie! I do hope that one day we can return to Il Calcione for another visit. Your patience and hospitality made our trip to Italy a truly wonderful vacation. In addition to the above, I would tell prospective renters that Calcione's location is ideal. Although it is close to larger cities like Siena, Florence, etc., its nearness to (our preference) wonderful smaller towns, like Lucignano, Monte San Savino, Sinalunga, Cortona, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino, made it ideal. We enjoyed the market in Lucignano for immediate shopping needs, but Sinalunga (a bit further) provided the hefty Supermercato for more involved food requirements. Calcione's accommodations were perfect for 2 families and children: it allowed plenty of privacy as well as sufficient common area. The pool, al fresco dining, and surrounding countryside gave us a much needed respite from being tourists. The view from the upstairs bedroom looking toward Lucingano could easily compete with any that Traveler magazine features in their "Room with a View". And finally, having access to Olivella as a personal concierge rivaled any high end hotel. We have rented 2 other villas in France and found Il Calcione to be our best experience thus far. | We had a most wonderful family vacation in celebration of my Birthday in June 1999 - staying at La Fornace at Calcione - seven of us under one roof - plenty of space, most adequate comfortable accommodation and wonderful walks. | We have been hiking in Europe for 12 years, Austrian Lakes, Black
forrest, Lake Lucern etc.... but nothing can compare to our stay
and hiking in Tuscany. We visited the wonderful medieval Cities
surrounding the beautiful villa that we rented from you. We always
go as a group of 6 (ladies only) and we were completely comfortable
with our arrangement at the villa. The best part was every afternoon or early evening we returned home, having bought fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and meats and after fixing our dinner eating under the beautiful chestnut tree - it was bliss. The wonderful Chianti from the region helped our great active vacation. We hope to do again soon. Hertha Lasky USA email: hlasky@hickorybeeline.com CASA DEL CASTAGNO

Two couples, myself, and four children (ages 5-17) stayed at Calcione
the first week of April, 2000. We had a wonderful time. Olivella
and her family were very warm and friendly and they property reflected
their personalities. The location in central Tuscany was super.
We made day trips to several cities from the Castle area including
Florence and Pisa (Pisa was a long day). In addition, we made
daily mountain bike trips right from the house. There are some
great restaurants in the area also. We stocked up at the local
bakeries for breakfast at the house. Feel free to contact me if
you would like additional information.

| My husband and I were living in Rome and went to Calcione to buy
our first dog, an Italian Greyhound bred by the Marchese della
Stufa. We had been thinking of leaving Rome and moving to the
country nearby. We fell in love with Tuscany and with Calcione
especially. We rented La Fornace for 6 months to see how we liked the place and stayed there for 17 1/2 years! The Tuscan countryside is beautiful but that at Calcione is the most beautiful of all with the rolling hills, fields, woods, olive groves, vineyards and medieval villages perched atop hills. It is exactly like the background of a Raffaello painting. The location is the best because the site is in the middle of this pristine countryside yet only 10 minutes from the autostrada whence one can go anywhere in Italy. It is near Florence, Siena, Arezzo, the Chianti wine growing area, and Assisi, Perugia, Spoleto, Gubbio in Umbria., and Rome is only 2 hours away, Venice 3, and Pisa and the Mediterannean 2 1/2. The 17th century farmhouses are charming, yet they are very comfortable to live in. We particularly liked La Fornace because it is slightly isolated and only a stone's throw away from the small lake where we used to have picnics and spend many hours during the summer. I still miss the tranquil life there, the lovely views, the food (I have never had tastier beef, pork, or chicken), the fresh-from-the-farm vegetables, the tree-ripened fruit, the olive oil, the wine, all of which one can get 5 minutes away at three nearby villages - Lucignano, Sinalunga or Monte San Savino. It is truly a memorable experience to live in any one of the old farmhouses at Calcione. I feel so very lucky to have lived there for such a long time, but to spend even 2 weeks there would be special. Frances Reed Charlotte,

| Add our name with pleasure as one of those who would be delighted
to recommend Calcione as one of the delights of Tuscany and a
home from home for visitors to your delightful region. I am delighted
you have given me the opportunity to end the laziness that was
the only thing that prevented me from writing long ago to tell
you how much we enjoyed our stay at your lovely castle home. We were guests in Casa dei Gelsi, which was all and more that we could have wished for. It was really a home from home: our swimming pool, elegantly furnished, deliciously cool, wonderful views, all the equipment we needed. What more can I say: it was heaven. Your family were kindness itself to us. The castle itself is superbly situated for day trips to all the villages and towns of Tuscany and Umbria. We kicked ourselves afterwards for making our original booking with your for one week only and moving on to stay in Florence. With hindsight we should have stayed a full fortnight with you and made a couple of excursions into Florence from Calcione as it is less than a couple of hours away. And when it is comes to the hilltop villages for which Tuscany is so famous, we decided we had the best hilltop village right on our doorstep - your own Lucignano just five miles away. It had all we needed in the way of shopping, restaurants and the shady bar where we spent many happy moments watching the old men play cards. We loved Lucignano. I would count it as a privilege to extoll the virtues and delights of Calcione to anyone you might like to refer to us. Tim Ross-Thompson

| Thank you so much for sharing Il Calcione with us. It was a wonderful vacation and definitely the best part of our eight weeks away from home. When we spoke on our last day, you mentioned that you would be interested in our listing highlights of our stay at Il Calcione and Tuscany:
1. The guesthouses are what you would expect of 18th Century renovated
peasants cottages: solid with amazingly thick walls and shuttered
windows; full of atmosphere and absolutely rustic. The art works
that decorate the walls in our house were particularly interesting
because they not only represent some of the ancestral Della Stufas
but there are also prints of old Toscana which suit the antiquity
of the house. The houses we saw are well and appropriately appointed
for the tariff range. We found our accommodation which was in
the moderate range very good and as we expected. We had everything
we needed including a fireplace. Joan and John Dunn

| Our family visited Calcione in June of 2000. We stayed in Fontegiannelli
in Casa Dell'Alloro. We were very pleased with beautifully furnished, cozy apartment which combines the charm of old ages with luxuries of modern world. We loved having breakfasts or lunches on the terrace outside. What a view! We didn't stay there long enough to fully enjoy some of the attractions Calcione has to offer, like a very charming private lake, but had a lot of fun splashing in the nearby pool, perfect for the kids. We felt very comfortable right from the start by the warm welcome and hospitality of the owners, as well as Calcione's staff.
